PRESS RELEASE
MEXICAN CONSULATE THREATENS CITIZENS
IRON contacted the Tulsa Library system on June 4 informing them that an Agreement with the Rudisill Library and the Mexican Consulate was prohibited due to Consul profiting from the facility as well as the Oklahoma Statute 11-31-101 that states the public library is "…for the use and benefit of the citizens of the municipality." Citizens would not permit the Mexican Consulate to utilize taxpayer funded facilities and the Consulate was notified by the Library Director the Agreement was cancelled.
Oklahoma citizens are not required to furnish facilities such as schools, colleges, libraries, and other public buildings for use by a foreign government. IRON clearly stated that keeping the Consulate out of Oklahoma was not our purpose, refusing taxpayer facilities for use by a foreign Government was our intent and we suggested they find another place to do their business.
It is outrageous for a foreign government to attempt to intimidate and threaten grandparents, Senior Citizens and American taxpayers. An immigration attorney, Carole A. Wangrud representing the Mexican Consulate, now threatens legal actions if citizens object to the Mexican government’s use of a taxpayer funded facility. These intrusions on local authority overstep Consulate’s scope of influence.
No foreign government has authority to interfere in Oklahoma law enforcement and attempt to intrude on our legal and human rights as taxpaying citizens. The Government of Mexico has abused their welcome in Oklahoma and citizens are outraged at their assumption of authority.
